GOT STARTED ON THE SOUND BOARD FOR THE MANDOLIN.
I USED TWO DIFFERING SPECIES OF SITKA SPRUCE TO GIVE AN INTERESTIN CONTRAST TO BOTH HALVES. THE SOUND BOARD IS NOW READY TO BE CLEANED UP TO ALLOW THE SOUND HOLE DECORATION TO BE MADE. THE NECK IS NOW ALMOST READY TO PUT THE HEADSTOCK VENEER ON. :) STARTING OFF WITH THE NECK.
IT IS MADE OF QURTER SAWN MAHOGANY, AND I WILL BE DOING AN INTEGRAL HEEL TYPE BODY JOIN. THE SCALE LENGTH WILL BE 13 7/8" I FLATTENENED AND DIMENSIONED THE NECK BLANK WITH HAND PLANES AND THEN CUT THE 15 DEGREE HEADSTOCK SCARF JOINT. ENDLESS LAMINATING AND GLUE CONSUMPTION. :) :( making decorative veneer lines for my rosette rings from 0.5mm veneers. Done a first real trial on the back strip grooving plane on a walnut classical back.... the fence set is 41mm from the centre line and going with the grain creates a really nice groove. I do not like using routers so I am fashioning a plane to cut the shallow groove up the centre of a joined guitar back . |
